Tinubu Possesses the Necessary Character and Guts Nigeria Needs - Wike

BEFORE the presidential elections, Governor Nyesom Wike stated that Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the presidential candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), had the necessary character and guts for Nigeria.

Wike, who met with Tinubu at the Government House in Port Harcourt shortly after the APC candidate’s campaign rally for Rivers on Wednesday, stated that he owes nobody an apology for making the declarative endorsement while wishing Tinubu luck in his bid for the presidency. Tinubu was also present during the meeting.

Tonye Cole, the candidate for governor of Rivers State for the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been charged by Governor Nyesom Wike not to receive any further financial support from the APC. Wike believes that Siminaliayi Fubura, the candidate for governor of Rivers State for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), will succeed him as governor of Rivers State.

The governor revealed that some of his (Wike’s) successful governorship policies, including quality welfare for judicial officers, were modeled after the policies of Tunubu when he was governor of Lagos. The governor also acknowledged that Tinubu, the former governor of Lagos, had never changed his political party and is steadfast in his beliefs.

Atiku Abubakar, a PDP presidential contender, was criticized by Wike for having no moral fiber in switching political parties and for breaking his commitment to transfer the party leadership to the South when he secured the party nomination.

Wike stated that the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) was disrespecting the Supreme Court on the escalating issues with the redesign of the CBN’s currency.

“You never advocated division or breakup of our country. All your advocacy is about sharing of the cake we bake together. We are here to campaign on the philosophy you brought about when you said let power shift to the South.”

Evidently criticizing Atiku for switching between the PDP and the APC, Tinubu said to Wike – “I do not want to abuse anybody. I’m not here (Government House) to campaign. It is because of your character, your belief and faith that when we came to Port Harcourt to campaign, we said we must pay you a courtesy visit.”
