In recent years, racism among entertainers has become more and more prevalent. From offensive jokes to outright bigotry, many performers in the entertainment space in Port Harcourt are coming under fire for their racist behavior.
This is not the first time, popular comedian KO Baba has taken to social to tackle the trend of entertainers pulling other entertainers down. This is most likely due to the competitive nature of the entertainment industry. However, this trend is harmful to both the entertainers involved and the entertainment industry as a whole.
He wrote; “I’m made of steel, rock and hot blood, very determined, rugged but always humble. Pls note; witchcraft no be only when you suck blood, your bad attitude and intent to pull others down is witchcraft too. Some of you are racists, but as una no dey Europe dey call us monkey, nobody knows you are a racist.”
When entertainers pull other entertainers down, it creates a negative environment within the industry. This can lead to less creativity and innovation, as well as less collaboration. It can also make it harder for new talent to break into the industry. This tendency is also bad for the entertainers who are part of it. When one entertainer puts down another, it can hurt both their careers and reputations. It can also lead to personal conflicts and feuds.
However, a fan named Ekwubiri Samuel had a different opinion and dared KO Baba to mention the names of the people involved and advised him to settle their differences outside public space.
Ekwubiri wrote: “Mention names of this okoko? Is only in the south that we have long term problems with our brothers and sisters. Settle your scores outside public space.”
